Wednesdays WEEE Wisdom – The BIG switch off
What does this mean? Darkness? Perpetual silence?
Not quite. In truth, it’s more of a big switch over than a big switch off.
The big switch off is a gradual phasing out of both ISDN (Integrated Services Digital Network) and Public Switch Telephone Network (PSTN).
Both networks are to be taken off the market from September 2023 and will become obsolete by the end of 2025.
This will see the end of analogue networks as we move over to internet-based solutions such as VOIP. With technology advancing at rapid pace, it’s vitally important that our telecoms equipment and infrastructure keeps up.
Internet solutions are now extremely fast, reliable, require less maintenance and are much more cost effective than previous copper based networks. Making them a much more logical and attractive proposition.
How can Plexstar help?
Both ISDN AND PSTN required a large amount of infrastructure, mainly in the shape of copper cabling. Plexstar currently and will continue to partner with several clients in disposing of this cabling and recycling these assets that contain precious metals such as copper.
It’s imperative to keep in mind that it’s just as important to dispose of redundant IT/Telecoms assets and infrastructure as it is to implement new.
If you’re in need of your old IT/Telecoms equipment disposing of or a contractor in charge of removing old infrastructure. Email [email protected] or head over to our website for further information on how we can help.
Also, be sure to make contact with your Telecoms provider as soon as possible, to confirm you have the necessary requirements in place.
